Last week Camden Council's Cabinet met to discuss the various proposals for the future of Camden libraries.

Library cuts
Sadly it has been agreed that after April 2012 current services will no longer be on offer in Chalk Farm, Heath and Belsize. All other libraries will reduce opening hours by 10%. Charges will be increased, stock and staff and extra services will be reduced. Part of the proposal includes working with the local community to try to plug these gaps, so there is a glimmer of hope but it will very much depend on those willing to take up the mantle.
What do you think this will mean for the future of libraries in the borough? Are you bothered? Do libraries offer a vital service to communities?
If you are interested the full papers can be viewed here which give the various options that were put before cabinet.
