To round off a great year in terms of academic results, it has just been revealed that Primary School pupils in Camden have scored their best ever results far exceeding the national average in their annual SAT tests.

The National Curriculum tests taken in May earlier this year indicate that a higher than average percentage of 11 year olds pupils in Camden primary schools are achieving at level four in maths or English. On the nationally recognised benchmark of the combined English and maths test results, 78% of Camden pupils achieved level 4 or above which is a massive 10% increase since 2007. In contrast, the national average has increased by 3% over the same period to just 74%. Similar success was seen in science which is assessed by teachers rather than national tests. Here pupils in Camden scored 86 compare to the national average of 85.

Councillor Larraine Revah, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said: "These are very good results, which show significant improvements in core English and maths skills in our primary schools - meaning that our children are performing better than other pupils both nationally and across London. Congratulations to all who have made this happen - children and their parents and teachers."

The results are provisional until the final school performance tables (including school by school results) are published by the government later in the year.
