Council warns Camden residents to be wary of cold callers

Council issues warning to Camden residents reminding them to be vigilant when dealing with cold callers, whoever they claim to be.
The council's trading standards officers have recently received a report that a resident in a neighbouring borough was visited by someone claiming to be a trading standards officer.
This person claimed the resident had been a victim of a rogue trader and if she gave them £2500 they would ensure she got £5000 back.
This caller was not from trading standards. The council wants to warn residents that:
- Trading standards officers do not generally cold call. An officer will usually only visit your home if you have made a complaint or enquiry to our office and a visit would have been arranged over the telephone beforehand.
- All council officers always have identification and will show that identification when introducing themselves. Their identities can be verified by contacting Camden Council's contact centre on 020 7974 4444.
- Trading standards officers will never ask for money.
