Swiss Cottage special school is still unable to start in its new building after the contrator failed to get final safety checks approved.

Children are currently being given individual programmes at venues across Camden, including Talacre Sports Centre, which is temporarily closed to the public mid-week as a result.

Pupils and staff were hoping to be in their new building at Avenue Road NW8 today (Monday, 8 October). However, this has been put back - possibly until 26 October - as the contractors (BAM) are still not able to hand over the building.

We are currently awaiting a certificate that passes the building as safe to use. The contractors could not get approval for all their safety checks in time so we cannot fully open the building.

In the mean time, the Council and the school are making provision from 9 October to 26 October in alternative classrooms but the Swiss Cottage School may be able to open in the new building sooner than this if the building passes its safety tests.
