A stunning collection of artworks, mainly by artists living or working in the borough will be shown in a slide show at Swiss Cottage Library Gallery next week.
You will be able to vote for your favourite ten pieces from a collection of 100 works, by visiting the gallery or online athttp://www.flickr.com/lbc_art_collection. Voting will start on 28 January until 10 March and the most popular pieces will be exhibited at the gallery from 18 to 28 March. To make it more interesting the artworks will be anonymous to encourage viewers to engage with the pieces without knowing who the artists are.
Highlights of the collections include unique works by Gillian Ayres, Sandra Blow and Derek Jarman, as well as limited edition works by David Hockney, Patrick Caulfield and Maurice Sendak.
The collection includes works dating from the late 1950s to the late 1980s, with the majority of the artists living or working in the borough for periods of time. Some were inherited when the Council was established in 1965. Other works were purchased by the Council from 1965 to 1985, with limited funding from a small picture loan scheme that the Council operated. Additional pieces were acquired through the Council's relationship with Camden Arts Centre, from public art commissions where we still own the maquettes or as donations from the artists themselves.
Get involved and vote for your favourite pieces online at http://www.flickr.com/lbc_art_collection or at the gallery from 28 January.
