Women who attended the West Hampstead Women's Centre recently celebrated their academic achievements.
It was a double celebration at the West Hampstead Women's Centre with almost all the women attending the centre's Somali women's group receiving certificates during their Christmas party for completing their NVQ level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care.
In honour of this fantastic achievement, Councillor Siddiq, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture and Councillor Olad, Chair of Culture and Environment Scrutiny Committee joined the celebrations and presented the certificates to the graduates.
It's been a real achievement for the 28 women with five already securing employment since graduating in July 2012 and a further three due to qualify next year.
The women are all working as carers with health and care agencies, and their qualification has not only boosted their confidence and self-esteem but will enable them to progress further in their career.
The centre which has been supported by Camden Council since it started in 1984 and recently received a grant from our Equalities and Cohesion Fund runs support groups and classes for all women. It provides information on healthy living, claiming benefits and reducing debt. It also provides drop-in support for women experiencing problems, including domestic violence.
