The joys of Twitter bring you this breaking news- Camden council meeting put on hold by maddened locals. This evening the Camden head honchos meet to discuss cuts in Camden, and turnout is fairly uninspiring.

Camden Protest Cuts
‘Public trickling in now. Finally.’ Said Sarah Hayward, Labour councillor
We now hear that there are 30 people inside.
This is what Sarah has outlined on her blog regarding the cuts that will be proposed:
• We rolled over support for the voluntary sector well in to the next financial year to enable organisations a longer period to plan for the inevitable loss of support – a period of grace that the Government’s Big Society just does not offer
• while government cut the money received in our Early Intervention Grant (which includes the old grants for SureStart) by 22%, we’ve applied only a 10% cut to our early years provision, in recognition of how vital these services are not just for the children who use them but their parents seeking to return to work
• We’ll also be outlining how a Camden People’s fund can be used to help soften the blow of cuts in a couple of other service areas – more details tonight.
Naturally people aren’t thrilled- which is why The Christophe reports, ‘Camden Full council meeting on budgets adjourned due to protests and disruptions. #camden
Xaphj reports on the march to the hall. ‘1200 marching to Camden town hall. #ukuncut #demo2011#solidarity #camden
Well, not many of those 1200 made it inside...
Were you at the council meeting tonight- or part of the protest? What’s your take on the council’s cuts? Let me know below!
