Camden Schools need to worry about special needs budget cuts

The UK knows that the recent changes to the budget will affect us all, but we’ve only just learned how they’ll impact on school spending in our borough- and it’s not good news. The council education fund is going to be cut quite drastically- and it will be students with special needs who miss out.

Budget cuts in Camden
The way this will affect them individually is through pans to stop them being placed in private schools, and instead place them in special needs schools, who don’t have the specialist training.
The FT revealed that ‘Camden also intends to stop offering 25 hours a week of free nursery care for all three and four year-olds, reserving it for vulnerable children. Other parents would be entitled only to the statutory minimum of 15 hours. These cuts would save a further £3.2m.’ What cost to the children though? The lack of nursery care will mean parents either have to work longer hours to cover the cost, or cut back on work and have a smaller income.
It is hard to find a happy medium, but education of children- especially those with disabilities- has to be a priority, and their care can’t be brushed aside.
