If the weather if friendly there’s nothing nicer than
-
Open Air Theatre Regen'ts Park
spending an evening at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. Tasty organic treats
and drinks are on offer, and the large auditorium seats 1240 people.
Last season their production of Hello Dolly won three Laurence Olivier Awards, and the owners of the venue are
hoping 2010 will be just as successful. The line up looks impressive, so I'm going to share with you what will be on offer this season.
There is something for everyone, as the programme contains Shakespeare
(The Comedy of Errors), Steven Sondheim (Into the Woods) and even a child
friendly version of the Bard entitled 'Macbeth re-imagined for everyone aged six and over'. This is
the 3rd family production of Shakespeare to be set at this theatre,
and uses the original text but makes it more accessible to young people through
skilful settings.
At present the theatre is set to
open from May 24th, and finish on September 7th, but it
may be extended if the weather is positive. Don’t fret if you want to attend a
show which gets cancelled because of the rain- they’re really good at replacing
your tickets for a different night.
This happened to me one year, and though the
cast tried to make it through the production, the show had to be cancelled as
due to heavy rain they were sliding about the stage in an unsafe manner. The crew were friendly
and professional and made sure replacement tickets were swiftly issued.
