The Jazz cafe is just one of those venues that has history cred and class in abundance. The comfy seating area at the front is great for chilling before the act comes on, with only slight exorbitantly priced drinks at the bar there, although be warned it was virtually a tenner for two normal drinks. The whole atmosphere is exciting and expectant, as everyone there is there for the music. They play host to some great acts, big names and more underground alternate music also, and pride themselves on really, really good music. I saw an amazing gig there jus this week and the sound and stage atmosphere was electric. The venue is small enough that you get a real up close view wherever you stand, and full and energetic enough to create a real crowd energy, with people dancing, clapping together, singing along, and feeling the rhythm. There's a balcony for booking dining tales for gigs, but one has to book a long way in advance to get a place there for the gig of your choice, and it is not cheap, or apparently great cuisine. So expensive drinks, limited food, but still a great venue... why? Because it is all about the music! You can hear every beat onstage and really feel part of the intimate performance, and with a line-up of cult acts like nowhere else it really does earn its reputation as one of the top music venues around.

This venue speaks to me more than any other in Camden, and with its prime location, really does feel like the heart of our bustling borough.
It draws in an excellent selection of live music and you almost always need to get tickets in advance now it has made its name as a sell out venue.
The main stage area feels really inclusive with a large dancefloor and balcony reaching right around the space.
The drinks are on the high end of the price range, but that's no great surprise. I have friends who have taken issue with some of the door staff, but can't speak for that myself.
I've always found a crowd here willing to engage with the music and happy to chat to everyone around them - perhaps that is down to the type of music I listen to.
I have certain seen large, and sometimes rowdy crowds around the doors on a Friday night, but have never heard anything but good reviews of the music. And for most of us, Camden is the heart of London's music scene, and this really is the centre of that love.
The thing about the Jazz Cafe is that it''s far from the pretentious little place people make it out to be. I think it''s still the best late night location for checking out up and coming bands. The last time I came here was during the Camden Crawl and even though the place was heaving with crawlers, it has never lost its charm.
