The Best Thai food in The UK!

I spent December 2009 enjoying the lush sights and smells of Thailand, from exploring the vast countryside to visiting the holy temples and the bustling cities. Everywhere supplied me with tasty low cost food, which contained an amazing blend of herbs and spices, and since returning to the UK Ive been on a serious mission to find a quality Thai restaurant. Up till now Ive been disappointed in my quest as Ive had oil drenched Pad Thais and noodles so limp that they should have a slot presenting GMTV. Then I ventured no further than my own doorstep to the Taste of Siam restaurant and experienced an epiphany.

his was Thai food as you might get it in Thailand, with noodles crisp and succulent, sauces mixed with fresh lemongrass and coconut milk curries. The restaurant itself doesnt look that exciting from the outside, a dark slightly overshadowed shop front on the main Camden High Street strip, but its attached to a Thai mini supermarket that sells fresh Thailand produce, from Chilli sauce to Tiger beer. I perused it briefly, and found my favourite Thai chilli sauce on its shelves- one that Id had to buy in bulk and take back with me from the Land of Smiles as Id liked it so much!

The menu prices were astounding- in the most positive way possible! A main meal came in at an average of £4.99 whilst sides were very well priced and the portion sizes were perfect. They supplied you with just the amount of food you needed, and you didnt feel the need to order in excess as they were so well flavoured, rather than fill up on bland rice and sides, the meals were a tasty mix of greaseless herbs, and they didnt feel the need to use oil to disguise the ingredients.

It was refreshing to have Thai in London that didnt swim in oil and the crisp flavours and vegetable mix took me back to the days of swimming in a clear blue sea and drinking in the smells of Bangkok.

The staff were friendly and attentive and the small size of the restaurant meant you felt like you were getting a lot of personal attention.

A bill for two came in at under £15, and I left feeling sated and happy- Ill definitely be returning.
